Sometimes it’s pretty damn hard to be on the other side of the blogopshere.

For starters, the stuff you get to write on one side of the world doesn’t quite make it to a group of folks you enjoyed writing for in times past.

Also, to be brutally honest, I still miss this place.

This is one of the few places where you can test out new ideas and see if they can catch fire before launching them elsewhere. Most other sites either want to keep what you write in the proverbial vault of their domain forever, or they have certain “Thou shalts!” and “Thou shalt nots!” that make writing about those topics nearly impossible.

I decided to write about the emotional cost of being a car guy earlier today. I enjoyed writing it, and since I thought about this place quite a bit while writing it, I’m going to post a link here.

If you enjoy it let me know. I’m not making so much as a plug nickel and nobody has asked me to do this. I frankly just want to share a story that I think has a universal cord.

I submit the following into evidence.

I’m fixing a totalled car. At a certain point I had to figure out how much am I willing to spend. Come down to it, I have the money and I’m not prepared to consign my car to scrap yard just yet.

to answer the question from the end of your story..... i decided to not sell the project car that im working on. EVER. i have had such a great learning experience working on it. and learned how to do so many new things, that id feel guilty selling it. as if i were putting a price on the friendship that helped build it.

and if i did put a price on it. what if someone was dumb enough to come up with that much money in one place.

SO. not for sale. any price. ever.

Kinda in that world with a Toyota Prius right now. I hate being in the intermission part of that ownership experience. The vehicle has been in the shop for nearly a month now.

Keep having that attitude. Sometimes it’s worth seeing things through. Even if it’s at the edge of a cliff.

the edge of the cliff is where you get the best(clearest) view.

Good stuff Steve. I always enjoy your perspective.

And you are right even when we are granted some opportunities to move beyond Oppo, it’s always nice to come back.
